the film, part of the installation Toutes Directions by John Hudson and Chrys Salt
The film was shot during our artists' residencies in Burie and St Jean D'Angely, near Cognac, France. It was designed to form part of an exhibition at The Chapelle de Benedictines, St Jean d'Angely, on the subject of a journey towards infinity.
A man keeps walking away from the camera and the music adopts the measure of his tread. Twelve mysterious poems, each of four lines appear on the screen. They represent brief narratives of many lives, which counterpoint the journey of the walking man.
The poems are a joint enterprise between John Hudson and Chrys Salt.
The film installation was erected in a black box (3 metres x 4 metres) and projected through three semi transparent screens onto a fixed screen at one end. It was played on a loop throughout the three week long exhibition.
