Provided no-one asked him what it was
he thought he knew.

Tant que personne ne lui a demandé ce que c'était
Il a pensé qu'il connaissait.

On his final case the detective saw
beyond the hands of his watch.

Sur son dernier dossier, le détective voyait
au travers des aiguilles de sa montre.

2)

It was never golden
but she spent it anyway.

Tout n'était pas doré
mais elle l'a dépensé quand même

She tossed a coin
and bought tickets north and south.

Elle a lancé une pièce
et a acheté des billets pour aller au nord et au sud.

He entered the labyrinth
with a pocketful of stars.

Il est entré dans le labyrinthe
avec une poche pleine d'étoiles.

Cuckoo cuckoo time flew
time flew cuckoo cuckoo.

Cuckoo cuckoo le temps s'envole

She watched the cat turn round and round
and felt herself unwind.

Elle a regardé le chat tourner, tourner

A la recherché du temps perdu
Proust n'a jamais quitté son bureau.

When asked which life he preferred
he couldn't give a straight answer

Quand on lui demandait qu'elle vie il préférait
Il ne pouvait pas donner une réponse exacte.

so she closed the box.

Il n'avait pas le temps pour de telles choses
donc elle a fermé le carton.

When her half-sister knocked on the door
history rewrote itself.

Quand sa demi-soeur a frappé à la porte
l'histoire s'est réécrite.

without conscience or regret.

Elle a sauté dans le tissu de la mémoire
sans conscience ou regrets.

Crossing time zones
her mobile rang and rang...

Traversant les zones du temps
son portable a sonné et sonné…

She watches leaves on the willow grow.
The father remains intransigent.

Elle regarde les feuilles du saule pousser.
Le père reste intransigeant.

He claims he has memories of the future
and his mother weeps

Il dit qu'il a des souvenirs du futur
et sa mére pleure.

Travelling backwards he meets
his infant father but cannot kill him.

Retrournant en arrière il rencontre
son père enfant mais ne peux pas le tuer.

The hands on his watch advance
as he looks over his shoulder.

Les aiguilles de sa monte avancent
tandis qu' il regarde au-dessus de son épaule.

The sundial crumbled 
in the old man's garden.

Le cadran solaire s'est écroulé
dans le jardin de viel homme.

It was his sole consolation
as midnight fell

C'etait son seul réconfort
quand minuit est tombé.

did he realise he'd missed the boat.

The clock had stopped
so why the ongoing beat?

and never looked back.

The clock chimed as he breathed his last
but his daughter knew better.
